The java_home -v command will list all JDKs already installed in your Mac OS. I just did this when I installed too new of a version. In the Search bar, enter "JavaAppletPlugin" and then select the "This Mac" button to search for the Java program file named JavaAppletPlugin. After a Java 6 installation, there is a large collection of Java files is deeply embedded into OS X, and, unlike the simple plug-in for the browser, it's not easy to uninstall all those files.
